Joan García is set to join Barcelona as their new goalkeeper, with the transfer plans confirmed. The club has agreed on a five-year deal with the player, and the formalities are expected to be completed soon. As per the agreement, Barcelona will pay Joan García’s €25m release clause to his current club, Espanyol, next week.
The goalkeeper, who plays as a shot-stopper, has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners having submitted a €20m bid for him in August 2024. However, Espanyol reportedly demanded €30m, leading to the deal falling through. Arsenal had also reached a verbal agreement with Joan García, but ultimately secured Neto on loan after their bid for García was rejected.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is imminent, with the journalist stating “here we go, soon” on the matter. With his signing, Barcelona is expected to bolster their goalkeeping department. Joan García’s previous club history includes his time at Espanyol, where he has been playing before joining Barça.
