History
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, often known as Spurs, is an English football club based in Tottenham, North London. The club was founded in 1882 by schoolboys from the Hotspur Cricket Club and Tottenham Grammar School, who wanted a winter sport to play when cricket was not possible. The club turned professional in 1895 and joined the Football League in 1908.
Home Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur’s home is the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in 2019, replacing their former home, White Hart Lane. White Hart Lane was home to Spurs from 1899 to 2017 and was known for its atmosphere and proximity to the pitch. The new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world and has a capacity of over 62,000 spectators.
Legendary Coaches and Players
Tottenham has had several prominent coaches and players over the years. Bill Nicholson is one of the most notable, leading the club to a “double” – winning both the league and the FA Cup – during the 1960-1961 season. Nicholson was also the coach when Spurs won the UEFA Cup in 1972, the club’s first European trophy.
Among the most prominent players is Jimmy Greaves, who is the club’s all-time top scorer with 266 goals in 379 matches between 1961 and 1970. Other legendary players include Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardiles and more recently, Gareth Bale.
UEFA Champions League Highlights
Tottenham has had several standout moments in the UEFA Champions League. During the 2010-2011 season, they reached the quarter-finals, which was their best performance in the tournament at the time. However, their most memorable campaign came in the 2018-2019 season when they reached the final for the first time in the club’s history. Despite losing to Liverpool in the final, it was a historic achievement for the club.

Tottenham Hotspur is widely known as Spurs. The club has a longstanding and intense rivalry with Arsenal, another club based in North London. This rivalry, known as the North London Derby, is one of the most passionate and intense in English football.
