History

The Associazione Calcio Milan, more commonly known as AC Milan, is a professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy. The club was established in 1899 by English lace-makers and has since become one of the most successful clubs in Italian and European football. AC Milan has won the Serie A, Italy’s top football league, 18 times and the Coppa Italia five times.

Home Stadium

AC Milan’s home ground is the San Siro, officially known as the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The stadium, which is shared with city rivals Inter Milan, is the largest in Italian football with a capacity of over 80,000 spectators. The San Siro is renowned for its unique atmosphere and is one of the most iconic venues in world football.

Legendary Coaches and Players

AC Milan has been home to several legendary coaches and players over the years. Among the most prominent coaches are Arrigo Sacchi and Carlo Ancelotti, both of whom led the club to numerous successes at both national and international levels.

Some of the club’s most notable players include Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Marco van Basten. Maldini, who spent his entire career at AC Milan, is regarded as one of the best defenders in the history of football. Baresi and van Basten are also considered two of the best players in their positions.

UEFA Champions League Highlights

AC Milan has had great success in the UEFA Champions League, where they have won the tournament seven times. Their first victory came in 1963, and they have since added another six titles, the most recent being in 2007.

One of the club’s most memorable matches in the Champions League is the 2005 final against Liverpool. Despite leading 3-0 at half-time, Liverpool managed an incredible comeback and won the match on penalties.

Nicknames and Rivalries

AC Milan is often known as Il Diavolo (The Devil) due to the club’s red and black home shirts. The club has an intense rivalry with Inter Milan, with whom they share the San Siro. This match, known as the Derby della Madonnina, is one of the most passionate and intense in Italian football.
