The transfer of Mike Maignan from AC Milan to Chelsea has been cancelled, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues were unwilling to meet Milan’s asking price, and the deal is no longer proceeding in time for the Club World Cup.
Transfer Negotiations Breakdown
Chelsea had been in talks with AC Milan over Maignan’s transfer, but the two clubs failed to agree on a fee. The Blues were reportedly not willing to pay the “CWC tax”, which refers to the additional amount Milan was seeking due to Chelsea’s participation in the Club World Cup.
Chelsea’s Goalkeeper Options
With the Maignan deal off, Chelsea is maintaining its trust in its current goalkeepers, including Robert Sánchez, Filip Jorgensen, and youth talent Mike Penders. Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s manager, had previously backed Sánchez and later confirmed Jorgensen as a goalkeeper for the team. The club appears to be confident in its existing goalkeeping options, having pursued Maignan earlier this year with Maresca’s approval. Maignan is a goalkeeper known for his shot-stopping ability and distribution. He previously played for Lille before joining AC Milan.
